Although most of hype has been focused on the Verizon Droid, which hits stores today, it’s not the only Android device that will be appearing on the network.
Verizon has been saturating the airwaves with a commercial touting the Android-equipped Droid as the phone that could finally knock the Apple iPhone off its perch.
When Verizon and Google announced their partnership back in October, it was announced that two Android devices would be making an appearance before the end of the year. You already know about the Droid. The second phone will be the Droid Eris from HTC. We’ve known about the Eris for a while, but it has finally been confirmed that the device will be out today. It will retail for $99.99.less than half the cost of the Motorola Droid. And a partial features list obtained by ZDNet is impressive:
• Qualcomm MSM 7600 528MHz processor
• CDMA/EV-DO Rev A. support
• 3.2 inch 320×480 HVGA capacitive touch screen and trackball interface
• 5.0 megapixel auto focus camera
• Expandable memory with pre-installed 8 GB microSD card
• Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3.5 mm headset connectivity
• Integrated GPS and a digital compass with a sensor that enables the phone to know what direction it is facing
HTC has said that it plans to bring Android 2.0 to the HTC Hero and Droid Eris, so the OS outlook looks solid.
